Are you ready for CCPA?

In just a few short weeks, the California Consumer Privacy Act takes effect. This bill affords the residents of California with additional data privacy rights and protections. It was signed into law on June 28.2018 and will become effective on January 1, 2020. This initiative was designed to give California residents more say in how businesses handle their personal information. Much like the privacy regulation GDPR affords European citizens the right to additional privacy over their data, CCPA will do the same for California.

Is your business ready? CCPA states that California residents have the following rights regarding their personal information:

  • To obtain a copy of the information collected on them.
  • To know what information about them is being sold and to whom.
  • To Opt Out of having their information sold.
  • To receive equal price and service even, if they are opted out.

CCPA defines Personal Information as; any information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household, including at the device level.

Is your business ready? If you conduct business in California, you must comply and so must the companies you do business with.
